Lifting Systems recently undertook a significant project with Naylors, a prominent manufacturer specialising in construction products and catering to various sectors within the construction industry. Particularly known for supplying high-performance systems for drainage, ducting, sewer and stormwater management, Naylors recently invested in a new Injection Moulding manufacturing facility at their Cawthorne site in Yorkshire. This expansion required robust lifting solutions to support their production processes, leading to the installation of a 15 tonne crane and overhead gantry system by Lifting Systems.
The design element was a crucial aspect of the brief and Lifting System’s technical team was able to provide several options to assist Naylor in deciding on their preferred layout.
The Challenge
The primary challenge faced by Lifting Systems was to design and implement a lifting solution capable of handling heavy mould tools, ranging from 1.5 to 15 tonnes, across five large manufacturing bays. The solution needed to consider a combination of varying hook heights and weight capacities, while also considering the operational space required for 7 meter long robotic systems operating beneath the crane. In addition, the timelines were tight, Naylors required the gantry system to be installed within a week to enable other contractors to complete the project within their respective deadlines.
The Solution
Lifting Systems approached the challenge with a tailored solution that included a 15 tonne crane and overhead gantry system. The technical team collaborated closely with Naylors to design an optimal layout that maximised operational efficiency and safety. This involved Installing a combination of columns and track beams to meet the specific needs of Naylors’ manufacturing environment. Most importantly, the project was completed within the agreed budget and timeframe, ensuring minimal disruption to Naylors’ ongoing operations and allowing other contractors to proceed with their respective tasks on schedule.
The collaboration between Lifting Systems and Naylors was a success and can be characterised by effective communication and a shared commitment to achieving our shared goals. The new facility not only enhances Naylors’ manufacturing capabilities but also supports their production of products such as Metro Access Boxes and Attenuation Crates. These products are crucial for efficient water management and storage solutions within the construction sector.
The successful installation of the 15 tonne crane and overhead gantry system at Naylors demonstrates the positive outcome that comes from strategic partnerships. Lifting Systems is proud to have contributed to Naylors expansion and we look forward to continued support.
